Artist Nick Smith Psycolourgy.

Nick Smith was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1980 and grew up in Bath, England from 1985 to 2000. He has a Masters Degree in Product Design.  Smith moved to London in 2006 and Spent 7 years happily working as an Interior Designer.  Later, Smith resigned from his job to spend his time creating art and messing with pervasive commercial and art imagery.
Smith’s first solo show of camouflage of colors "Psycolourgy" at the Lawrence Alkin Gallery, features his impressive re-creations of masters’ paintings with custom individual Pantone color chips.  Smith re-worked pieces from several major artists including Francis Bacon, David Hockey, Leonardo da Vinci, Rene Magritte, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, George Stubbs, Johannes Vermeer, Vincent Van Gogh, and Andy Warhol.   

Each of the color chips that makes up these original works has been created by Nick and customized with a specific name that relates to the artwork it comprises, adding that extra dimension.

Aldo Rossi (born 1931), one of the most influential architects during the period 1972-1988, has accomplished the unusual feat of achieving international recognition in three distinct areas: theory, drawing, and architecture. In 1966 Aldo Rossi published the book The Architecture of the City, which subsequently was translated into several languages and enjoyed enormous international success. Spurning the then fashionable debates on style, Aldo Rossi instead criticized the lack of understanding of the city in current architectural practice. Aldo Rossi argued that a city must be studied and valued as something constructed over time; of particular interest are urban artifacts that with-stand the passage of time. Despite the modern movement polemics against monuments, for example. Aldo Rossi held that the city remembers its past and uses that memory through monuments; that is, monuments give structure to the city.

Helmut Newton, a feckless, un-scholarly boy grew up to transform fashion photography.  Probably the most imitated and controversial fashion photographer of his time, Newton earned the nickname King of Kink as well as a fortune. “If a photographer says he is not a voyeur, he is an idiot,”  Newton once said.  His erotic and dream like images were like a peep through a key hole, spied moments of a heightened reality. Architect Marcel Breuer

Designer and Architect, Marcel Breuer (1902 - 1981) can be regarded as one of the most influential and important designers of the 20th century. As a young student at the Bauhaus Weimar, Breuer, who was Hungarian by birth, caught the eye with various furniture designs inspired by the Dutch De Stijl group. In 1925, at the tender age of only 23, he “invented” tubular steel furniture, a revolutionary development, to be considered his core contribution to the history of design. Breuer’s tubular steel designs, such as the famous Wassily armchair, the Bauhaus stool, or his various cantilever chairs are representative for the design of an entire epoch, and thus comparable only with Wagenfeld’s legendary table luminaire. Marc Quinn Archaeology of Art

The Archaeology of Art sculptures are based on the forms of real shells - the most perfect pre-existing sculptural 'readymades' in our natural world. The found forms are enlarged using a 3D printer and cast in aluminium, concrete, stainless steel or bronze. Marc Quinn polishes the inside of the shells to a high sheen, contrasting with their heavily textured surfaces. Like the rings on a tree, these surfaces tell of the age and history of the object, like some kind of found structural diagram, whereas the sculpture’s highly polished, reflective insides remain in the present moment, continually reflecting the present. Photographer Julius Shulman

Julius Shulman was the 20th century's most famous photographer of modern architecture.  He grew up on a Connecticut farm and after 1920  the city of Los Angeles.  An amateur photographer since his teens, Shulman had a chance encounter with Architect Richard Neutra in the late 1930's, soon afterwards Shulman's career as a photographer of Architecture was launched. From the 1940's through the 1960's Shulman's photos appeared in major magazines across the globe, Shulman helped infuse modernist art principles into what we now call lifestyle.  His work advanced the careers of America's most famous architects, including Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright.  Shulman officially retired in 1989, but a new appreciation for modernist architecture in the 1990's led to his work being hailed as fine art.  By the time he died, Shulman was said to be the guy who first practiced architectural photography as an art form.
